Businesses in the UAE often run more ad platforms than their European peers, sell on bilingual websites, and take payments through buy-now-pay-later apps. Each of these adds a tracking problem that a standard GA4 template does not solve. This guide explains what a GA4 consultant should check in a UAE setup.
Privacy rules depend on where you are registered
The UAE has a federal Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), but free zones such as DIFC and ADGM have their own data protection laws and regulators. A company registered in DIFC follows different rules from one registered on the mainland. A consultant should ask where your business is registered and which markets you sell into, especially if you also serve Saudi Arabia or Europe, before choosing a consent setup.
Three problems we see in UAE accounts
1. Tabby and Tamara redirects break attribution
Buy-now-pay-later is very popular in the Gulf. When a customer chooses Tabby or Tamara, they leave your site to approve the plan and then return. If those domains are not excluded as referrals in GA4, the sale is credited to the payment provider instead of your campaign. Card gateways such as Telr, PayTabs and Network International can cause the same issue.
2. Snapchat and TikTok without server-side events
Snapchat has unusually strong reach in the UAE and the wider Gulf, and TikTok is close behind. Many stores track Google and Meta properly but leave Snapchat on a basic browser pixel. Sending Snapchat Conversions API and TikTok Events API through a server-side container, with the same event ID used for deduplication, gives those platforms the signals they need to optimise.
3. Arabic and English pages reported as two sites
Bilingual sites usually serve Arabic under /ar/ and English under /en/, sometimes with different product names. GA4 then reports the same product or page twice. Adding a language parameter and a consistent item ID lets you see one product with a language breakdown instead of two unrelated rows.
Reporting that fits the UAE calendar
Year-on-year comparisons in the UAE are misleading if they ignore Ramadan, Eid and the White Friday and Dubai Shopping Festival periods, which move every year. We build Looker Studio reports that compare like-for-like seasons, so a drop is not mistaken for a tracking fault and a tracking fault is not hidden by a sale period.
What a proper UAE GA4 audit covers
- Referral exclusions for Tabby, Tamara and card gateways
- Consent setup matched to PDPL, DIFC or ADGM depending on your registration
- Server-side events for Meta, Snapchat and TikTok with deduplication
- Language-aware reporting for Arabic and English pages on Shopify, Salla, Zid or WooCommerce
Questions to ask before you hire
- How do you keep campaign credit when customers pay through Tabby or Tamara?
- Have you set up Snapchat Conversions API before?
- How will you report Arabic and English traffic together?
- Will you audit the existing GTM container before changing anything?
FAQ
Do UAE websites need a cookie banner?
It depends on where the business is registered and who it sells to. Businesses serving EU or UK visitors, or registered in DIFC or ADGM, usually need one. We check your situation before setting up consent.
Is Snapchat tracking worth the effort?
In the Gulf it often is. If Snapchat is a meaningful part of your ad spend, server-side events usually improve how well its campaigns optimise.
Can you work with stores on Salla or Zid?
Yes. Both support GTM or their own pixel integrations, and we check what each platform sends before building on it.
